A Monthly Checklist for Growing Your Ad Revenue
Big improvements in ad revenue rarely come from a single change. They come from small, consistent steps. This checklist gives you a simple monthly routine to keep your site healthy and growing.
1. Review revenue and traffic
- Compare page views, page RPM and total earnings with last month and the same month last year.
- Check revenue by country and device for unusual changes.
- Note any seasonal effects before drawing conclusions.
2. Check your top pages
- List the 10 pages with the most traffic and the 10 with the highest RPM.
- Make sure they are up to date, accurate and well linked to related articles.
- Look for topics you can expand with new supporting articles.
3. Review ad performance
- Check viewability and RPM by ad unit.
- Identify units that add little revenue and consider removing or moving them.
- Review blocked categories and advertisers if your network allows it.
4. Test site speed
- Run your top pages through a speed test on mobile.
- Check the Core Web Vitals report in Google Search Console.
- Remove plugins and scripts you no longer need.
5. Policy and account health
- Open the policy center in your ad network and resolve any warnings.
- Confirm that your
ads.txtfile loads and lists only current partners. - Scan new content for anything that could break policies, such as copied images.
6. Traffic quality
- Look for spikes from unknown referrers or countries.
- Compare click-through rates with your normal range.
- Review any paid promotion to ensure it brings engaged readers.
7. Content plan
- Plan the next month’s articles based on what readers search for.
- Schedule updates for older posts that are losing traffic.
- Prepare seasonal content a few weeks ahead.
8. Technical maintenance
- Update WordPress, themes and plugins.
- Check that backups are running and can be restored.
- Verify that HTTPS, redirects and your sitemap work correctly.
9. Write down one experiment
Choose one change to test during the next month, such as a new placement or a layout improvement. Record the date and what you expect to happen, then review the result next month.
Consistency beats intensity
Two focused hours a month, repeated over a year, can transform a site. Keep the checklist, adapt it to your needs, and let steady habits do the heavy lifting.
